After working on "Two Things' and 'Half of Nothing' I was feeling like I wanted to deconstruct a little bit and make something less precious and less intentional. Voila. My favorite track is 'Train From Montreal' which was mostly recorded on the train from Montreal, after a short stay in Kira Sheppard's sweltering summer apartment.

All along the process of making this album I was calling it an instrumental album, which it isn't really. It's more of a concept album, revolving around the idea of a gradual fall into disorder. Originally I was going to end it with a wall of white noise... you know, the final decay of the musical system into a homogeneous chaos. Great idea, not fun to listen to.

A big feature of the sound is a Dynachord tape delay I bought in Berlin this summer. The tape delay fit in sonically and conceptually as a machine that literally loops a sound into itself, allowing it to rapidly decay into an indistinguishable smear of noise. It created many of the textures that fill up the background of these songs.

The images are free-hand line drawings that my sister Amy Nicoll made of me while I camped out at her house in Toronto this year. The image in the background is a double exposure taken by my good friend Jam. I played around with photoshop.

The choral song in the first 'Memory' is my grandma and her sisters singing "When I Met Jesus," recorded sometime in the 40's.

Thanks to Big Jelly Al for aiding me in my quest for a tape delay, which is absolutely everywhere on this album. And of course, thanks to all of the family.
